Preparation
- About 4 weeks before, prepare your prior-procedure history and a current medication/supplement list.
- Two weeks before, protect the skin barrier and avoid starting strong new active products.
- One week before, make travel, follow-up and social plans realistic.
- In the final 48 hours, report fever, cold sore, infection, new medication, dental work or skin reaction to the clinic.
- Disclose neuromuscular disease, swallowing/breathing history and blood-thinner use; do not stop medication on your own.
- Avoid scheduling treatment immediately before a major event; leave a safe assessment buffer.
Treatment day
- The day proceeds with a brief health update, area review, photography/marking if needed, informed consent and treatment.
- Brief needle pricks and mild stinging may occur; treatment is usually short, but comfort varies by person and area.
- Report sharp, increasing or unmanageable pain, dizziness, or vision/breathing symptoms immediately.
- Before leaving, normal symptoms, warning signs and the contact route should be clear.
Recovery timeline
- First hours: Try to stay upright; do not firmly massage the injection points, rub the skin or compress the face.
- 0-24 hours: Pinpoint redness and mild soreness are expected; avoid excess heat.
- 2-3 days: Soreness should trend down; any increase should be reported.
- 3-5 days: The initial effect may begin to appear.
- 10-14 days: Symmetry and effect are reviewed more meaningfully, using same-light, same-angle photos.
- 2-4 months: The effect gradually fades; repeat decisions depend on assessment, not a calendar.
Warning signs — when to call
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing, generalized muscle weakness, speech change or double vision requires emergency medical assessment.
- Signs of a serious allergic reaction require emergency care.
- Call the clinic for unexpected asymmetry, eyelid droop or increasing bruising.
- A headache that resists pain relievers or keeps worsening should be assessed.
- If a symptom is not easing, is increasing or comes with general-health symptoms, do not assume it is normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
- When will I start to see the effect?
- The initial effect usually appears within a few days; symmetry and dose effect are reviewed more meaningfully around 10-14 days.
- Is the procedure uncomfortable?
- Zero sensation should not be expected; brief pricks and mild stinging can occur. More discomfort does not mean a better result.
- How long does the effect last?
- Duration varies between people and usually fades gradually over months; repeat decisions depend on assessment and response.
- Is chewing fatigue after masseter Botox normal?
- After masseter treatment, quicker fatigue with firm chewing can be an expected transitional feeling for 2-3 weeks; it should not be confused with difficulty swallowing or breathing.
