Fractional laser technology
Fractional laser is a technology that precisely wounds the skin with millimeter-sized channels. Instead of treating the entire area, it creates "pixel by pixel" damage; healing signals come from the adjacent healthy tissue. There are two types: ablative (CO2, Erbium:YAG) — vaporizes the surface; non-ablative (Fraxel 1550) — preserves the surface and heats the underlying layer. Ablative is powerful, requiring 7-14 days for recovery; non-ablative is gentler, healing with 2-3 days of redness.
These are the gold standard treatments for wrinkles, acne scars, fine lines, and surface smoothness. For those over 50, 1-2 sessions can create dramatic rejuvenation. However, they are generally not recommended during periods of high sun exposure (summer) — there is a risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Radiofrequency: heat-based tightening
RF is a technology that delivers electromagnetic energy to the dermis. It heats skin tissues (usually 40-45°C); this heat shortens collagen fibers (immediate effect) and triggers new collagen synthesis (long-term effect, noticeable after 2-6 months). Microneedling RF (e.g., Morpheus8 platform) is an evidence-based, premium option — it combines both microneedle damage and RF heating.
Microneedling (dermapen, dermaroller)
Microneedling stimulates the skin with tiny needles 0.5-2.5 mm deep. Each wound initiates its own healing process, which triggers collagen and elastin synthesis. It provides mild skin rejuvenation on its own, and a strong synergy in combinations (PRP, mesotherapy). It is applied with 3-4 sessions spaced apart.
HIFU: focal ultrasound
HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) bypasses the skin surface and places a heat focus at a specific depth (usually 1.5-4.5 mm). It can reach the SMAS layer (the fibrous layer above the muscle). It is used for tightening the facial oval, correcting mild sagging, and defining the jawline. A single session can be effective; the benefits last approximately 6-12 months. While not an alternative to thread lifts, it is a good energy treatment for early sagging.
Decision tip:Which one? Skin surface problems (spots, smoothness, fine lines) → Laser. Moderate tightening + young skin → Microneedling RF. Early sagging, facial oval → HIFU. Acne scars → Fractional CO2. Deep sagging → Not this group, surgery or threads are needed.
